Social Studies

     In social studies, we will begin with rights and responsibilities.  Your student will learn about rules and why we have them.  We will kick off this unit with the book, What If Everybody Did That? by Ellen Javernick.  The students will love it and it is a great way to help them understand why it is important for everyone to have rules!

 We will also read Have You Filled A Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud.  It's a wonderful book on teaching students how to be a good citizen.  This is terminology that the second grade teachers use year-round.  The students gradually begin talking about filling and dipping in peoples invisible buckets.  You will be happy to know that Homeroom 210 is a room full of bucket fillers!
