HOMEWORK:

Dear Parents,

This week we are implementing our Fundations homework.  ELA homework will come home every Monday and is due back on Friday.
Each weekly packet will include a: “fill in the blank” activity; sentence worksheet; spelling sheet and a Reading Comprehension (fluency) sheet.  Some weeks you may see writing instead of another worksheet.
Fill in the blank:  Please have students write in the word and mark it up.
Sentence worksheet:  Students will write six sentences.  Each sentence should have seven or more words and the students are only allowed to use the word “I” to start one sentence.
Spelling sheet:  This workpage will have six spelling words that are usually trick words.
Reading Comprehension:  This is the most important sheet in the packet.  Your child should read this passage twice to themselves and once to an adult each night.  Although students may complain that this part of homework is “boring” or “easy,”  it is an important routine that is intentionally based on “easy” reading levels and it meant to build fluency.  We will use this in class as well to monitor progress each week.  Each student will record themselves reading the passage on Monday, practice during the week at home, and then record themselves again on Friday. This routine will help the students measure and become aware of their own progress with fluency skills.  We especially appreciate your support with this aspect of reading practice at home.  We also ask that you:
  1. Remind your child to read 15 minutes each night (on top of their fluency passage.)
  2. Continue to initial your name after reading time each night.

Completed homework packets are due every Friday.  Thank you for supporting all of our reading routines at home this year!  Feel free to contact us with any questions/concerns.
